Series pertains to bonds issued by the Commissioner of Loans in 1839, showing when they were redeemed or cancelled. The series also contains records of bonds issued under the Exchange Loan of 1889, bonds of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Company, and the scrip register of the Philadelphia and Reading Railroad Company, which the treasurer was authorized to receive in payment of the mortgages of the Susquehanna and Tidewater Canal Companies. Scrip is an acknowledgement by the projectors of a company that the person named therein is entitled to a certain specified number of shares. It is usually given in exchange for a letter of allotment, and in its turn is given up for the shares. See also COMMISSIONER OF LOANS Coupon Register Bonds series [MSA S 157].
